Hylian shield, handmade by Aradani:

“I have been doing costumes for about 5 years now, and have been dressing as Link from The Legend of Zelda for about that long. I recently decided to start producing SCA battle ready shields using wood and leather. I am very proud of the end result.

The shield is double layer 1/4 inch ply wood, glued together to achieve the curvature of the shield. It is 24 inches tall, 18 inches wide at the widest point. It has garment leather on the backside (with two straps for actual use) and a small ring for hanging on a wall. The front and edge of the shield are 10 oz Veg Tan leather, completely hand-tooled to form the classic image seen in the video game. After tooling, I dyed the entire shield black, and then I hand-painted the shield. It is mounted to the wooden core using contact cement and upholstery tacks.

The main color of the shield is currently silver, as this was done for a specific look based on an image online of Link as the Fierce Deity from Majora’s Mask. However, since it is painted, I can easily paint this to be a metallic blue.”
